Hospital Brawl Erupts in Taipei After 102-Year-Old Billionaire’s Secret Marriage

A dramatic family dispute unfolded at a hospital in Taipei after the children of a 102-year-old billionaire discovered that their father had secretly married his longtime caregiver.

According to reports, the elderly businessman, identified by his surname Wang, recently wed Lai, a caregiver who had been looking after him for the past decade. The situation escalated when Wang’s children arrived at the hospital to visit him and learned of the marriage, which reportedly took place just a month ago.

Tensions flared as the children allegedly attempted to remove their father — who was seated in a wheelchair — from the hospital during a heated argument. Witnesses’ screams prompted police to arrive at the scene, though authorities later determined that all individuals involved were family members.

During the altercation, Lai sustained injuries. Speaking to the media, she confirmed that her marriage to Wang had taken place only a month earlier.

The dispute extends beyond personal disagreements. Family members claim that Wang had been isolated from relatives for years, with limited visits and communication. They allege that during this period, several properties and insurance policies were transferred to Lai and her children without their knowledge.

One of Wang’s sons expressed shock that a caregiver had suddenly become his father’s legal spouse and heir.

According to the family, Wang was previously involved in the land trading business and possesses assets worth approximately 700 million New Taiwan dollars — equivalent to billions of Pakistani rupees. They allege that Lai secured the transfer of seven properties, seven land plots, and more than ten insurance policies valued at around 200 million New Taiwan dollars to herself and her two children.

Lai has denied all allegations and has filed complaints of violence and coercion against the children. She has also sought a protective order. Both sides are now pursuing legal action to assert their rights.

Legal expert Li Yu Sheng stated that if the family can prove Wang was not mentally competent at the time of the marriage or asset transfers, there may be legal grounds to annul the marriage or reverse the property transactions.
