Stormy Rains and Hail Lash Balochistan, Temperatures Drop Sharply in Quetta and Kalat

QUETTA: Heavy rains, strong winds, thunderstorms, and hailstorms have gripped several districts of Balochistan, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures across the province.
Intermittent rainfall has been recorded in the provincial capital Quetta, where cloudy skies persist and cold weather has intensified. In the Chaghi district’s Chattar area, sudden thunderstorms accompanied by hail caused concerns of water accumulation in low-lying areas. Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel.
Rain and hail were also reported in Nushki and surrounding areas, significantly lowering temperatures, with more rainfall forecast over the next 24 hours. Light rain in Sanjavi tehsil further increased the chill.
Thunderstorms and hail continued in Qila Abdullah, Pishin, and Qila Saifullah, bringing pleasant yet cold weather. Farmers have welcomed the rainfall as beneficial for crops, though heavy downpours may create difficulties in some areas.
In Kalat, hail blanketed the ground in white, while heavy rain inundated low-lying areas. Local administration has urged citizens to take precautionary measures.
Rainfall in Turbat tehsil and various parts of Kech district brought relief after days of intense heat, though further showers are expected by night, potentially increasing the cold.
According to the Meteorological Department, more rain with strong winds and thunderstorms is likely in Quetta, Pishin, Muslim Bagh, Zhob, Ziarat, Barkhan, Sibi, and Kalat. Weather activity is also expected to continue in Kech, Panjgur, Washuk, Kharan, Khuzdar, and Gwadar.
Minimum temperatures were recorded at 3°C in Quetta and Kalat, 2°C in Ziarat, 5°C in Zhob, 13°C in Sibi, 15°C in Turbat, 13°C in Nokundi, and 5°C in Chaman.
The Meteorological Department has advised citizens, travelers, and farmers to remain cautious, avoid weak structures and electricity poles, and refrain from unnecessary travel in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
