Birthday Celebration Turns into Horror as Gas-Filled Balloons Explode in Mumbai Lift

Mumbai (Qudrat Daily) – A frightening incident occurred in India’s financial capital Mumbai when gas-filled party balloons exploded inside a residential building’s lift, leaving two people with burn injuries. A shocking CCTV video of the incident has also surfaced.
The incident took place on Monday night at Anmol Tower, located in Goregaon West, Mumbai. According to media reports, a woman entered the lift first, followed by a delivery worker carrying a large bunch of balloons filled with gas inside a plastic bag. As another person was about to step into the lift, the balloons suddenly caught fire and exploded with a loud blast, engulfing the lift cabin in flames for a few moments.
CCTV footage shows a fireball rapidly spreading throughout the lift. As a result of the explosion, 21-year-old Himani Taparia suffered burn injuries on her right arm, neck and abdomen, while 32-year-old delivery worker Raju Kumar Mahato was also badly burned. Both injured individuals were immediately shifted to a hospital, where doctors confirmed that they are now out of danger.
Police stated that the delivery worker was taking the balloons to the 10th floor for a birthday celebration. Following the incident, a case was registered against the balloon supplier on charges of endangering human life.

During the investigation, authorities said that while it has not yet been officially confirmed which gas was used in the balloons, there is a strong suspicion that they were filled with hydrogen gas, which is far more flammable than helium. Officials have advised citizens and delivery staff to avoid carrying such hazardous items in enclosed spaces to prevent similar incidents in the future.
