Historic Breakthrough in Medicine: Scientists Grow Human Blood Cells from Stem Cells in Lab

**Islamabad (Qudrat Daily):** Scientists at **Cambridge University** have successfully completed a groundbreaking experiment in which human blood cells were created in the laboratory using stem cells.
According to the research, this innovative technique allows the replication of early human developmental stages, typically occurring during the **fourth and fifth weeks of pregnancy**, which are otherwise extremely difficult to observe directly.
The research team generated three structures from stem cells, called **hematoids**, which self-organized and began producing blood within approximately two weeks. These models function without actual embryonic components like the yolk sac or placenta but produce key cells responsible for forming blood and other tissues in the human body.
During the study, researchers observed cells exhibiting **heart-like pulsations by the eighth day**, and by the thirteenth day, **red blood cells** became clearly visible. The resulting hematopoietic stem cells can later differentiate into **oxygen-carrying red blood cells** and **white blood cells** of the immune system.
Scientists say this technique has the potential to **revolutionize research and treatment of blood disorders such as leukemia** and could play a critical role in **regenerative medicine**, enabling the creation of blood or stem cells from a patient’s own cells for transplantation in the future.
