Couple Killed in Karachi Over Love Marriage; Bride’s Father Arrested

KARACHI: A married couple was shot dead in Karachi’s Bhains Colony area on Monday for contracting a love marriage, police said.

According to police officials, the shooting occurred when the woman’s father opened fire on his daughter and her husband. A passerby was also injured after being hit by a stray bullet and was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police confirmed that both the husband and wife died on the spot due to gunshot wounds. The couple had married by choice about a month ago and belonged to Thatta district. After their marriage, they had been living in Karachi.

Inspector General of Sindh Police, Javed Alam Odho, took notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from senior police officials. He directed authorities to ensure a transparent investigation and take strict action against those responsible.

The incident has once again highlighted the issue of so-called honor killings, which remain a serious concern despite being a punishable crime under Pakistani law.
