Pakistan Meteorological Department Forecasts Fresh Spell of Rain and Snowfall Across the Country

Islamabad:The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a new spell of rain and snowfall in various parts of the country starting today.
According to the PMD, a fresh western weather system is expected to enter the western regions of the country tonight and will affect upper areas by Monday. From today until January 27, rain and snowfall are likely in different regions of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to the incoming western winds.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain is expected from tonight through Tuesday, while snowfall is forecast in upper districts. Heavy snowfall is expected at a few locations in the mountainous areas. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned that rainfall and snowfall may increase the risk of landslides and avalanches in upper districts.
Rain is expected in Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Murree, and the Galiyat, while snowfall is likely in hilly areas. Intermittent rain may also occur in various parts of Punjab.
Thunderstorms accompanied by rain are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, and Kohat. Snowfall in Naran, Kaghan, Kalam, and Chitral may lead to road closures and slippery conditions.
In Balochistan, snowfall is expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Saifullah, and Qila Abdullah. Meanwhile, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds is forecast for Gwadar, Khuzdar, Awaran, Chagai, Panjgur, and Kech.
Authorities have advised travelers and residents in affected areas to take precautionary measures in view of the adverse weather conditions.
