Sindh Govt Approves Rs21.53 Billion for Karachi Roads, Infrastructure Uplift
Karachi: In a major relief for residents of Karachi, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved more than Rs21.53 billion for the rehabilitation of roads and improvement of other infrastructure across the city.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by the chief minister to review the restoration of Karachi’s road network and infrastructure. The meeting was attended by Provincial Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, Chairman P&D Najam Shah, along with senior officials of the Local Government Department and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
The chief minister approved a total allocation of Rs21.53 billion for Karachi’s infrastructure uplift, saying that rehabilitation of roads would improve traffic flow and boost economic activities in the city. He emphasized that public convenience and urban safety are top priorities of the Sindh government.
A special grant of Rs13 billion was also approved for the restoration of Karachi’s roads. During the meeting, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab briefed the chief minister on the condition of 409 dilapidated roads in the city. According to the spokesperson for the chief minister, financial assistance was also approved for 24 Town Municipal Corporations.
Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah informed the meeting that patchwork would be carried out on 400 roads across Karachi’s seven districts, while nine roads would undergo complete reconstruction. He said the total cost of road, sewerage, and water supply projects would be Rs12.57 billion.
The chief minister also directed KMC to rehabilitate 26 major roads in Karachi and approved additional projects worth Rs8.53 billion related to roads, drainage, and streetlights.
He instructed authorities to ensure transparent, high-quality, and timely completion of all projects and directed the finance department to release funds immediately.
