Iqrar Hassan Protests Delays in Rescue Operations at Gul Plaza Tragedy

Karachi: Following the tragic fire at Karachi’s Gul Plaza, prominent anchor and Awam Raj Party leader Iqrar Hassan staged a protest over delays in rescue operations, confronting the Deputy Commissioner (DC) West.

Iqrar Hassan, accompanied by his supporters, reached Gul Plaza and held a demonstration outside the DC office, criticizing the slow pace of rescue efforts. During the protest, he had heated exchanges with officials and urged the public to raise their voices for themselves, stating that the rulers had become insensitive to citizens’ suffering.

Speaking to the media, Iqrar Hassan emphasized that citizens provide lavish protocol to leaders with the expectation that they serve the public, but the situation at Gul Plaza reflected a failure in governance.

The fire at Gul Plaza, which erupted on Saturday night, was brought under control after 36 hours. Recovery operations continue inside the building, where 26 bodies and human remains have been retrieved so far.

The incident has sparked public outrage over delayed rescue efforts and highlighted the urgent need for accountability in emergency response procedures.
