Unusual Green Color in Makran Sea Threatens Marine Life

Islamabad (Daily Qudrat) – The sea water in Makran’s coastal areas has turned an unusual shade of green, causing significant damage to marine life.

Environmental authorities reported that **algal blooms (seaweed growth) in coastal areas of Gwadar, Pasni, Jiwani, and Ormara** have drastically reduced oxygen levels in the water. This sudden drop in oxygen has led to the death of dozens of fish.

The Deputy Director of Environment stated that around **200 marine snakes, including guitarfish, were found dead**, highlighting the severe impact of oxygen depletion on marine creatures. He explained that the abrupt decline in oxygen levels has severely affected not only fish but other marine organisms as well.

Officials noted that **algal blooms are a natural process**, triggered by certain seasonal and environmental factors. However, their immediate effects can be highly dangerous. The excessive growth of algae has also caused foul odors along the coast, disrupting daily life for local communities.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and assessing the damage to marine life. They urged fishermen to **exercise caution and avoid fishing in affected areas** to prevent further harm.

Environmental experts added that if weather conditions remain favorable, the situation could **return to normal in a few days** as oxygen levels in the water recover. The public has also been asked to **avoid spreading rumors and report any unusual incidents to relevant authorities**.
