Scientific Study Refutes Trump’s Claim Linking Paracetamol Use During Pregnancy to Autism

Islamabad (Daily Qudrat) – A major international scientific study has **firmly rejected former U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial claim** that taking paracetamol during pregnancy causes autism in children.
Experts say the research clearly shows **no scientific link between prenatal paracetamol use and autism, ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), or intellectual disabilities** in children.
The study, published in the prestigious medical journal *The Lancet*, conducted a **detailed and systematic review of 43 high-quality studies**, collectively analyzing data from millions of children. Specifically, the analysis covered **over 262,000 cases of autism, more than 335,000 cases of ADHD, and over 406,000 cases of intellectual disabilities**.
The findings indicate that **there is no direct or indirect association** between maternal paracetamol use during pregnancy and these neurodevelopmental disorders.
Medical experts emphasized that **paracetamol is widely used globally for pain and fever**, and when taken in proper doses under medical guidance, it is considered safe. They also warned that unscientific claims can **cause unnecessary fear among the public**, urging that health-related advice should always rely on verified scientific evidence.
Donald Trump had previously, in September of last year, advised pregnant women to avoid paracetamol, which sparked widespread debate and concern among global medical professionals.
