New Weather System Enters Punjab; Severe Cold, Rain and Snowfall Forecast

Lahore: A new weather system has entered Punjab, prompting forecasts of severe cold, rainfall, and snowfall across various parts of the province. Relevant departments have been put on alert, while citizens and tourists have been urged to follow precautionary measures.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), a system of western winds has started entering Punjab from today, which will keep severe cold and foggy conditions intact across the province, including Lahore. From January 20 to 23, heavy snowfall and rain are expected in Murree, the Galiyat, and other mountainous areas, while rainfall is also likely in most districts of Punjab during this period.

DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia said that in view of the potential adverse weather conditions, alerts have been issued to local government bodies, the health department, Rescue 1122, police, forest department, C&W, tourism, and the transport department. He directed that staff at emergency control rooms remain on 24-hour alert to effectively respond to any emergency situation.

The Meteorological Department forecast that Lahore’s minimum temperature may drop to 4 degrees Celsius, while the maximum is expected to reach around 14 degrees Celsius. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather. Tourists heading to Murree have been urged to take special precautions and strictly follow official guidelines.

DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia said facilitation centers have been set up at various locations in Murree to assist tourists. The PDMA has appealed to the public to comply with issued safety advisories and to contact the PDMA helpline 1129 in case of any emergency.
