US Embassy Announces Suspension of Immigrant Visa Services for Pakistan and Other Countries

Islamabad:The US Embassy in Pakistan has announced that the US Department of State will suspend immigrant visa services for applicants from Pakistan and several other countries starting January 21.

According to the embassy, the decision has been taken under the Trump administration’s policy to ensure the highest standards of screening and vetting of visa applicants, with a focus on protecting the American public.

The embassy stated that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has implemented the decision to suspend immigrant visa services. The suspension will remain in effect until the United States ensures that new immigration applicants have undergone a complete screening process and have fully demonstrated their eligibility for US immigrant visas.

This also includes ensuring that individuals applying for immigration will not rely on US government financial assistance after arriving in the country.

The US Embassy clarified that the measure applies only to immigrant visas and will not affect non-immigrant visa applications. Visa issuance for tourists, students, athletes, skilled workers, and their immediate family members will continue as usual.
