Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s Appointment as Opposition Leader Marked as Victory for Democratic Forces; Nationwide Strike on February 8 Announced for Imran Khan’s Release and Constitutional Restoration – Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party

**Quetta:** The Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP) has hailed the appointment of its chairman, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, as Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly as a historic triumph for the country’s democratic and political forces. In a press release from the party’s central secretariat, PMAP extended heartfelt congratulations to Achakzai, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, and the people of Pakistan.
The statement highlighted that Pakistan is facing deepening crises due to political instability, threats to provincial autonomy, constraints on judicial and media freedoms, and challenges to the country’s constitutional framework. PMAP described Achakzai’s leadership as instrumental in defending democracy, restoring the Constitution, and strengthening parliamentary governance.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Achakzai in efforts to ensure the release of Imran Khan, uphold true democratic governance, empower the Parliament as the central authority, and secure equitable powers for both houses of the legislature. Appreciation was extended to PTI leaders, parliamentarians, and PMAP workers for their dedication and resilience during these challenges.
In line with these goals, PMAP announced a nationwide “pinhole and shutdown” strike on February 8, 2026, calling it a necessary step to pressure the current non-elected administration and restore true democratic order. The party pledged to continue its constructive and democratic political role under Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s leadership until the realization of these objectives.
