Flour Prices Rising While Tandoor Owners Fined, Says Sheikh Rashid

Rawalpindi: Former federal minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has criticized the government over rising flour prices, alleging that instead of controlling inflation, authorities are imposing fines on tandoor owners, bike riders, and shopkeepers.

Talking to the media during his appearance at an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi, Sheikh Rashid said that flour prices are increasing while tandoor owners are being arrested and fined. He added that fines of Rs20,000 each are being imposed on Bykea riders and shopkeepers.

He urged the authorities to reduce flour prices, control inflation, and abolish unnecessary fines. “I humbly appeal that the cases of people languishing in jails should be heard. Half the city has been sealed in the name of fines,” he remarked.

According to Jang, Sheikh Rashid and other accused appeared before the court earlier today, after which the court allowed them to leave following attendance.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Terrorism Court adjourned the hearing of 11 cases related to the events of May 9 until January 30.
