Shah Mahmood Qureshi Says Negotiation Authority with Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Affirms Loyalty to PTI Amid National Dialogue Questions

Lahore: Former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi appeared in an ATC court in Lahore, where the court extended his bail in three cases until January 19. During the proceedings, he met Asad Umar, and brief discussions were held between them.

Speaking informally to the media, Qureshi prayed for a better 2026 for Pakistan and for protection against internal and external threats. On a question regarding Fawad Chaudhry and the National Dialogue Committee, he stated that as PTI’s vice chairman, he cannot deviate from party policy. He emphasized that resolving the current political struggle requires dialogue, as reconciliation follows resistance, and the country can only progress through conversation.

Qureshi clarified that PTI founder has granted Mahmood Khan Achakzai full authority to negotiate and make the best decisions on the party’s behalf. “We are in jail, so information is limited,” he added. Regarding his meeting with Fawad Chaudhry, Qureshi said that Chaudhry visited him in the hospital, and it is inappropriate to question why a guest came to see him.

On foreign affairs, he remarked that although Pakistan defeated India militarily, the threat has not yet been eliminated. He added that Afghanistan’s prosperity is tied to Pakistan, and for stability, it must maintain good relations with the country. Qureshi concluded by praying for a dignified release from jail.
