Punjab to Execute Development Projects Under Public-Private Partnership Model

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has decided to carry out the construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of roads, housing, and hostels across the province under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The chief minister has also approved the implementation of major construction projects for 18 key provincial roads along with 24 corridors of agricultural, industrial, and urban significance.
She set targets for the rehabilitation of outdated water infrastructure, provision of clean drinking water, and improvement of the sewerage system. It was also decided that at least 30 percent of projects in the provincial development program for 2026–27 will be undertaken with private sector participation.
Key decisions were taken during the third review meeting on PPP projects, chaired by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb. The meeting directed the launch of projects in various sectors through collaboration between the public and private sectors.
During the meeting, the Punjab PPP Authority was briefed on major projects related to roads, water supply, and public facilities. It was informed that modern technology, machinery, and systems would be introduced for road maintenance and innovative toll collection methods.
The meeting approved, in principle, the dualization of the 150-kilometer-long Depalpur–Pakpattan–Vehari Road through private sector participation. Similarly, approval was granted for the dualization of the 100-kilometer Chiragh Abad–Jhang–Shorkot Road.
These initiatives aim to reduce travel time, ensure road safety, lower public expenditure, and provide better road infrastructure and facilities to commuters.
