Road Expansion Projects Turn Into Chaos in Quetta, Traffic System Collapses, Citizens Frustrated

*Quetta:* Ongoing road expansion projects in Quetta have turned into a public ordeal, as the city’s streets remain torn up and construction debris left unremoved, causing severe traffic disruption and daily hardships for residents.

Major roads including Jinnah Road near Science College Chowk, Prince Road, Zarghoon Road, Samungli Road, New Sabzal Road, Gwalamandi Chowk, Imdad Chowk, and Airport Road have been partially demolished under the development initiative. Contractors have left rubble on-site, and authorities have taken no effective measures to clear it, leading to traffic congestion, dust, and increased risk of accidents.

Citizens criticized the provincial government for slow progress and poor planning, noting that many projects have remained incomplete for months. Traffic has been diverted to one-way routes, causing overcrowding on alternative roads and long delays for office-goers, students, patients, and daily commuters.

Moreover, there is a lack of coordination between the traffic police and relevant departments. Construction sites lack signboards and personnel to guide vehicles, exacerbating public inconvenience.

Residents have urged the provincial government to monitor these development projects closely, hold contractors accountable to complete work on schedule, and ensure debris is cleared promptly. Officials, however, insist that the projects are in the public interest and efforts are underway to complete them as soon as possible, though citizens argue that poor planning and supervision are turning these initiatives into major hardships.
