MQM-P Announces ‘Save Karachi Campaign’ Amid Worsening Situation in the City

Karachi: In response to the deteriorating conditions in Karachi, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan has announced the launch of a “Save Karachi Campaign.”

The announcement was made during a press conference held at the party’s headquarters in Bahadurabad, where senior MQM leaders openly discussed the city’s pressing challenges and future strategy.

The press conference was attended by prominent leaders including Dr Farooq Sattar, Haider Abbas Rizvi, and Syed Aminul Haq, among others. The leadership highlighted Karachi’s current state, its vital role in the national economy, and the party’s proposed course of action.

Addressing the media, Dr Farooq Sattar said that restoring Karachi to its rightful status has become unavoidable. He emphasized that Karachi contributes 65 percent of national revenue and 95 percent of provincial revenue, while more than half of Pakistan’s exports are linked to the city. Despite this, he said, residents continue to suffer from a lack of basic facilities.

Formally announcing the launch of the “Save Karachi Campaign,” Farooq Sattar stated that the city’s infrastructure is in a state of severe decline. He pointed to poor drainage systems, an acute shortage of clean drinking water, and badly damaged roads as some of Karachi’s most serious issues, calling for immediate and sincere action to address them.

He further remarked that 2025 marked a crucial and decisive phase in Pakistan’s history, particularly the period from May 6 to May 10, 2025, which he described as significant in terms of national achievements. During that time, he said, the public stood united alongside the armed forces.

Looking ahead, Farooq Sattar warned that 2026 will bring a new challenge, which he termed the “economic battle,” aimed at making Pakistan economically strong, independent, and self-reliant.

He stressed that Pakistan remains aligned with the global community and that the country’s security is directly linked to Karachi’s stability. According to him, the development and prosperity of Karachi are essential guarantees for a brighter future for Pakistan.
