Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi Challenge Toshakhana-II Verdict in Islamabad High Court

Islamabad – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have challenged the verdict in the Toshakhana-II case by filing appeals in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

According to Express News, the appeals against their convictions were filed through counsel Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry. The Islamabad High Court has assigned diary number 24560 to Imran Khan’s appeal, while Bushra Bibi’s appeal has been registered under diary number 24561.

In the appeals, it has been argued that the trial court wrongly relied on the testimony of Inamullah Shah, who had already been dismissed from service, and on statements of an approver, which, according to the petitioners, should not have been relied upon. The appellants maintained that the prosecution failed to prove the case against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.

The petitions further contend that the Toshakhana-II verdict should be declared null and void, asserting that a person cannot be punished multiple times for the same offence. It was also argued that the Special Central Court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case.

Additional grounds in the appeals include claims that Sohail Abbasi was unlawfully made an approver, that the Bulgari jewelry set was retained in accordance with Toshakhana rules applicable to former rulers, and that the case was registered without proper investigation. The appellants alleged that the proceedings are politically motivated and constitute victimization.

The petitions also argue that the applicant does not fall within the legal definition of a public servant under the relevant law.

Along with challenging the verdict, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have requested the court to fix the appeals for early hearing.
