Islamabad Local Body Elections: PTI Request Approved, Deadline for Nomination Papers Extended

**Islamabad (Qudrat Daily):** The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has approved Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) request and extended the deadline for submitting nomination papers for Islamabad’s local body elections by three days.
Candidates can now submit their nomination papers until December 30, whereas the previous deadline was December 27.
The request was submitted to the Chief Election Commissioner by Anjum Shehzad Tanoli, Secretary of the Local Bodies Committee, citing that the government’s declaration of a public holiday on December 26 could disrupt the submission process.
The petition noted that Islamabad has a total of 125 union councils, each requiring at least nine councilors’ nomination papers, and the holiday could create administrative and logistical challenges, leading to unnecessary rush on the last day.
According to the ECP schedule, polling for the local body elections is set for February 15, with results expected between February 16 and 19.
PTI has stated that preference for party tickets will be given to workers who have remained loyal to the party and its ideology over the past three years and have made significant sacrifices.
