Snowfall in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, AJK, and Gilgit-Baltistan as Tourists Flock to Northern Areas

Islamabad: Snowfall and rain continue across Pakistan’s northern and plain areas, bringing a significant drop in temperatures and causing the closure of several connecting roads. Tourists are heading to higher altitudes to witness the winter scenery.

In the past 24 hours, Kalam received 2.5 inches of snowfall, while other hilly areas including Swat Valley, Kumrat, Dir, Abbottabad, Galiyat, Neelum Valley, Chilas, and Ghizer have been covered in a white blanket of snow.

Tourists have flocked to popular destinations such as Kalam, Malam Jabba, Thandiani, Changla Gali, and Ayubia. Scenic views of snowfall were also observed at Lowari Tunnel, attracting large crowds eager to experience the winter beauty.

According to the Meteorological Department, rain and snowfall are likely in parts of Kohistan, Palas, and Mansehra districts, especially at higher altitudes.

Recorded minimum temperatures in the last 24 hours include:

Kalam: -3°C

Malam Jabba: -1°C

Dir & Parachinar: 0°C

Drosh: 1°C

Chitral: 2°C

Saidu Sharif: 4°C

Timergara & Balakot: 5°C

In the plains, minimum temperatures were recorded as:

Peshawar: 7°C

Kohat: 7°C

Bannu: 8°C

Dera Ismail Khan: 10°C

The snowfall has not only enhanced the region’s natural beauty but also provided an opportunity for tourists to enjoy winter activities, though authorities have urged caution on slippery and blocked roads.
