Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Pledges 300 Grounds and Sports Complexes for Youth Development

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting sports, including basketball, on the occasion of International Basketball Day. She highlighted Punjab’s remarkable performance in the 35th National Games, securing 126 medals and achieving a historic victory after 37 years.

Maryam Nawaz announced that world-class sports complexes are being constructed across Punjab, and players will receive support through the Sports Endowment Fund. She stressed that sports play a crucial role in fostering teamwork, competition, and resilience among the youth, while also teaching discipline. The “Khelta Punjab” program has been launched to further promote sports throughout the province.

The Chief Minister revealed plans to establish a dedicated department for the construction and renovation of grounds and gyms across Punjab, with a goal to develop 300 new grounds and sports complexes for young people. The Sports Endowment Fund has been increased from 2 billion to 4 billion PKR to support these initiatives.

Additionally, she announced the revival of sports festivals, competitions in union councils, and the launch of the Punjab League. Ten university students will also be included as members of the Sports Advisory Council, and international coaches will be brought in to train athletes. These steps aim to provide young athletes with world-class facilities and opportunities to excel.
