Punjab Government Denies Capping Private School Fees at Rs10,000

The education sector in Pakistan’s Punjab province has long remained a subject of debate, particularly over the high fees charged by private schools, an issue that has repeatedly reached the courts.

In the past, parents and students have complained that private institutions such as Beaconhouse, Lahore Grammar School (LGS), and others charge monthly fees ranging from Rs25,000 to Rs50,000, placing a heavy financial burden on middle- and low-income families. Although laws exist to regulate fee increases, effective implementation has remained a persistent challenge.

**Viral Claim on Social Media**

Recently, a claim went viral on social media alleging that the Punjab government had decided to cap the monthly fees of private schools, including Beaconhouse and LGS, at Rs10,000. The claim further suggested that the decision would be implemented from January 2026, providing relief to millions of students and parents.

**Government Terms Claim Fake**

However, the claim has been declared completely false. Punjab Minister for Education Rana Sikandar Hayat, while speaking to V News, strongly denied the reports. He clarified that the Punjab government has not made any such decision to reduce or cap private school fees at Rs10,000.

He stated that the news circulating on social media is fake and aimed at misleading the public. The minister added that while the government is working on reforms in the education sector, no notification has been issued regarding limiting private school fees to Rs10,000 per month.

Rana Sikandar Hayat urged the public to verify information from official sources before believing or sharing such claims.

**Ongoing Spread of Fake News**

This is not the first time misinformation related to the education sector has surfaced. In the past as well, fake news of this nature has caused confusion and anxiety among parents, students, and educational institutions across Punjab.
