Journalist Matiullah Jan Challenges Trial Court Order in Narcotics and Terrorism Case

Islamabad: Senior journalist Matiullah Jan has challenged the trial court’s order in a narcotics and terrorism case by filing a petition in the Islamabad High Court.

According to Express News, Matiullah Jan has formally approached the Islamabad High Court against the trial court’s decision in the case related to narcotics and terrorism registered against him. The petition has been filed through his counsel, Barrister Mian Ali Ashfaq.

In his petition, Matiullah Jan has requested the high court to declare the order issued by the Anti-Terrorism Court null and void. He has also sought the removal of narcotics charges from the case.

The petition argues that there is neither any video evidence nor CCTV footage to support the alleged recovery of narcotics. It further states that according to precedents set by higher courts, video evidence is mandatory in cases involving narcotics recovery.

It is pertinent to note that the Anti-Terrorism Court had rejected Matiullah Jan’s plea seeking the removal of narcotics charges from the case two days earlier. Following that rejection, he has now challenged the same trial court order before the Islamabad High Court.

The high court is expected to take up the matter for hearing in the coming days.
