Islamabad:** The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain and snowfall in various parts of the country today.
According to the PMD, cold weather is expected to prevail across most regions, with partly cloudy skies. In mountainous areas, temperatures are likely to remain very cold during the morning and night hours.
The department said that during the evening and night, rain is expected at isolated places in Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir, while light snowfall is likely over the mountains of Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory for the period from today until December 18 regarding rain and snowfall. According to the NDMA, rain and snowfall are expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kohistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and parts of Balochistan during this period.
The NDMA stated that a system of western winds will affect northern and western parts of the country, which may also increase the intensity of fog. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in plain areas, while snowfall is likely in hilly and upper regions.
Due to snowfall, the possibility of road closures at some locations has been highlighted. Light rain is also expected in Quetta, Ziarat, and some parts of northwestern Balochistan.
The NDMA has urged caution, warning that intermittent light snowfall may continue at several locations in northern areas.
