Punjab CM Approves Honorary Card for Imams, Payments to Begin January 1

Lahore: The Punjab Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has approved the issuance of an “Honorary Card for Imams” to provide financial support to mosque leaders across the province.

According to reports by Dunya News, the CM chaired a meeting where it was decided that the card would be issued by February 2026, with payments starting from January 1. Initially, pay orders will be distributed, and from February 1, payments will be made directly through the honorary card system.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif instructed that the registration process for Imams continue uninterrupted. So far, 62,994 registration forms have been received across Punjab, and verification is ongoing. Any Imam involved in moral or financial crimes, or acting against national interests, will have their honorary card revoked.

The government has also established mosque management committees and tehsil-level management committees throughout the province. Assistant Commissioners have been directed to hold monthly meetings with Imams, while combing operations in sensitive areas will continue.

The CM further approved legislation for strict action against damage to Safe City cameras and government property and directed digital monitoring of individuals listed under the Fourth Schedule of criminal offenses. Operations against illegally residing Afghan nationals in the province will also continue.
