PTI Issues Show-Cause Notice to Senator Saifullah Abro for Deviating from Party Policy on 27th Amendment

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has issued a show-cause notice to Senator Saifullah Abro for voting in favor of the 27th constitutional amendment, which went against the party’s official stance. A copy of the notice has also been submitted to the Chairman Senate Secretariat.
According to the notice, Senator Abro voted contrary to party directives on November 10 and 15, despite PTI’s parliamentary party explicitly deciding to oppose the amendment and issuing written instructions to all senators to vote against it. Records indicate that the instructions were formally communicated to the senator, making his actions deliberate and intentional.
The notice cites Article 63A (1)(b) of the Constitution, which states that a member who votes against the party’s directives may be considered a defector. Supreme Court interpretations emphasize that party directives are mandatory and binding.
Senator Abro has been given seven days to submit a written explanation. Failure to respond may be considered a violation of party discipline, and his case could be forwarded to the Election Commission, with disqualification proceedings also under consideration.
The show-cause notice was issued by Senator Syed Ali Zafar.
