Yasir Hussain Criticizes Authorities After Child’s Death in Karachi Open Manhole Incident

Karachi: Pakistani actor and director Yasir Hussain has spoken out over the recurring issue of open manholes in Karachi, following the tragic death of a three-year-old child in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
On Sunday, the child fell into an uncovered manhole near Nipa Chowrangi, and his body was recovered 14 hours later from a drain located one kilometer away. The heartbreaking incident sparked widespread public outrage, with citizens heavily criticizing the Sindh government and Karachi’s mayor for their failure to ensure basic civic safety.
Taking to Instagram, Yasir Hussain shared a story condemning the negligence, writing: *“The lid is not needed on the gutter, it needs to be placed on corruption. Pakistan Zindabad.”*
Earlier, renowned actress Mahira Khan also expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, reacting to a viral video showing the grieving mother’s helplessness.
Despite repeated incidents, the issue remains unaddressed. This year alone, 24 people — including five children — have lost their lives after falling into open drains and manholes across Karachi. Citizens continue to urge authorities to implement a proper system to prevent such avoidable fatalities.
