Government Considers Major Changes to Used Car Import Policy

Islamabad: The federal government is considering significant amendments to the used car import scheme, including the abolition of the *Personal Baggage Scheme* and stricter regulations for the *Gift* and *Transfer of Residence* schemes.

According to details, the Ministry of Commerce has forwarded a summary to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet, which will review the proposal in its upcoming meeting.

Sources reveal that the government has made an in-principle decision to revise the used vehicle import policy to prevent its misuse. Final approval will be sought from the ECC and subsequently from the federal cabinet.

The summary recommends ending the Personal Baggage Scheme entirely, while tightening the conditions for both the Gift Scheme and the Transfer of Residence Scheme. The Ministry has suggested enhanced measures to curb misuse of these import channels.

These proposed changes aim to strengthen oversight and ensure that used car import facilities are not exploited beyond their intended purpose.
