Preparations Underway for Mega Conference on Sustainable Development & Climate Resilience in Quetta

QUETTA: The Department of Planning and Development held a high-level meeting, chaired by Additional Chief Secretary Planning & Development Zahid Saleem, to prepare for the upcoming mega conference on Sustainable Development and Climate Resilience.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Secretary Agriculture Noor Ahmed Parkani, Secretary Environment Ali Akbar Baloch, Secretary Energy Dawood Khan Bazai, Secretary Planning Asif Farukh, Secretary Implementation Zeeshan Javed, and Chief Foreign Aid P&D Ms. Batool Asadi, among others.
During the meeting, participants discussed the proposed agenda, organizational arrangements, and session topics in detail. It was informed that the inaugural session of the conference will be held on December 8, 2025, in Islamabad, with participation from national and international experts, representatives of climate-focused organizations, and development partners.
The conference will feature various sessions and panel discussions on key topics, including climate resilience and environmental protection measures in Balochistan, climate finance, carbon credits and investment opportunities, adaptation through innovation, technology and research, and exploring new pathways for provincial departments’ roles and partnerships in sustainable development.
Speaking at the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary Zahid Saleem emphasized that this mega conference is of critical importance. Its main objective is to provide Balochistan with robust, scientific, and sustainable strategies to tackle climate challenges, achieve sustainable development goals, and protect the environment. He noted that the participation of international organization heads, experts, and donors will create new investment, technical assistance, and policy support opportunities for Balochistan.
Finally, the Additional Chief Secretary instructed all relevant departments to ensure timely and high-quality preparations for the conference so that Balochistan can host this significant event successfully.
