OGRA Approves Reduction in Gas Prices, Sends Decision to Federal Government

Islamabad: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has approved a reduction in gas prices for the current fiscal year and forwarded its decision to the federal government for final approval.

According to an OGRA spokesperson, the authority has proposed a 3% decrease in the average gas price for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and an 8% reduction for Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC).

After the proposed adjustments, the average gas price for SNGPL stands at Rs 1,804.08 per MMBtu, while the new suggested average price for SSGC is Rs 1,549.41 per MMBtu.

The spokesperson stated that OGRA will issue an official notification regarding the revised gas prices once the federal government provides its advice. The government has been asked to give its input based on the pricing slabs.

OGRA sources say that, subject to federal approval, the benefit of reduced prices will be passed on to consumers. The federal government is required to respond within 40 days, after which the decision will automatically come into effect if no reply is received.
