Federal Shariat Court Hears Case on Broadcasting Indian Content on Pakistani Channels

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Shariat Court conducted a hearing regarding the airing of Indian content on Pakistani television channels.

A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Justice Aminuddin Khan, presided over the case. During the proceedings, the court issued notices to all parties involved and adjourned the hearing indefinitely.

The matter dates back to 2016 when PEMRA had decided in a meeting that Indian content would not be aired in Pakistan. Initially, a 10 percent quota for Indian content was allowed at the time of licensing. In 2017, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, serving as Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, had suspended PEMRA’s notification.
