Fatty Liver Disease: Causes, Symptoms, and Doctor-Recommended Ways to Reduce It

ISLAMABAD – Fatty liver disease, a condition in which excess fat accumulates in the liver, affects around **25% of the global population**. Experts warn that certain lifestyle and health factors can increase the risk of developing this condition.

In a recent vlog by Marhan TV, Dr. Zigham Abbas explained that **people with diabetes** are particularly prone to fatty liver. Additionally, individuals with **high body weight or elevated cholesterol levels** are at greater risk.

Dr. Abbas noted that **fatty liver often shows no obvious symptoms**, though some people may feel **heaviness or mild discomfort in the abdominal area**. While fatty liver does not always indicate liver disease, in some cases, excessive fat buildup can damage liver function.

**Treatment and Management:**
Dr. Abbas recommends **weight reduction** as the primary method to reduce liver fat. He advises regular tests to monitor cholesterol and urges people to manage it through gradual lifestyle changes rather than extreme crash diets, aiming for **1 to 1.5 kg weight loss per week**.

He also mentioned that **Vitamin E** can help reduce liver fat, but cautioned against using any supplements or medications **without consulting a doctor**.

The key takeaway: Maintaining a **healthy weight, managing cholesterol, and following medical guidance** are essential steps in preventing and managing fatty liver disease.
