National Assembly Approves Amendments to Pakistan Army, Air Force, and Navy Acts Following Cabinet Approval

**ISLAMABAD (Qudrat Daily):** Following approval by the federal cabinet, the **National Assembly** has passed amendments to the **Pakistan Army, Air Force, and Navy Acts** to align them with the **27th Constitutional Amendment**.

In a session chaired by **Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq**, the **Army Act 1952 (Amendment) Bill** was presented by **Defence Minister Khawaja Asif** and passed by a majority vote. Similarly, amendments to the **Pakistan Air Force Act 1953** and **Pakistan Navy Ordinance 1961** were introduced and approved in the assembly.

The **Supreme Court Practice and Procedure (Amendment) Bill**, presented by **Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarrar**, was also passed. According to the amendments, the **Chief of Defence Forces** position will have a **five-year term** from the date of appointment. Changes were also made in the Air Force and Navy acts, and the **first appointments in the new constitutional court** will be made by the Chief Justice.

Earlier, the federal cabinet, chaired by **Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif**, approved amendments to all three service acts to modernize and harmonize the laws governing the armed forces.

Under the **Pakistan Army (Amendment) Act 2025**, the **Chief of Defence Forces** position was introduced, and the **Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC)** office will be abolished from **November 27, 2025**, onward. The amendments also define the Prime Minister’s powers for appointments, reappointments, and extensions of senior military positions, including **Field Marshal promotions**.

The **Air Force and Navy Acts** were amended to remove references to the CJCSC and revise relevant sections to reflect the **27th Constitutional Amendment**, ensuring clarity in the **command structure, multi-domain integration, and powers of the armed forces**.

**Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal** said the amendments establish new positions in the Navy and Air Force alongside the Field Marshal rank, while the **Federal Constitutional Court (Procedure and Practice) Act 2025** will replace the previous constitutional bench system.

**Defence Minister Khawaja Asif** added that the constitutional amendments are now part of the **Constitution of Pakistan**, and necessary legislation will follow to implement the changes. **Information Minister Ata Tarrar** noted that legislative amendments to the service laws were required to bring them in line with the constitutional changes.
