27th Constitutional Amendment to Be Presented in Senate Today

ISLAMABAD:The new text of the **27th Constitutional Amendment** will be presented in the **Senate today** for approval, with the session scheduled to begin at **11 a.m.**
According to official sources, the **federal cabinet** has also been convened later today to **approve legal amendments** in light of the newly passed constitutional changes.
The **27th Amendment** was approved by the **National Assembly** on Tuesday with a **two-thirds majority**, while opposition members **tore up copies of the bill**, **protested before the Speaker’s dais**, and **boycotted the proceedings**.
The government secured **234 votes in favor**, exceeding the required 224, though **Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F)** opposed the amendment.
The bill includes **eight new amendments**, including a significant change to **Article 6, Clause 2**, which now stipulates that **no act of high treason can be validated by any court**. The clause has also been expanded to add the words **“Federal Constitutional Court”** alongside **High Court** and **Supreme Court**.
Under the amendment to **Article 176**, the **current Chief Justice** will continue to be referred to as the **Chief Justice of Pakistan** until the completion of his term. Afterward, the **senior-most among the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court** will assume the title of **Chief Justice of Pakistan**.
