No One Has the Power to Undo the 18th Amendment: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman **Bilawal Bhutto Zardari** declared that “no one’s father has the power to roll back the 18th Amendment,” reaffirming his party’s firm stance on protecting provincial autonomy and democratic rights.

Addressing the National Assembly, Bilawal said that the **27th Constitutional Amendment** aims to fulfill the **unfinished promises of the Charter of Democracy**. He condemned the recent terrorist attacks across Karachi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stressing that the entire nation must unite against terrorism and anti-state elements.

“The terrorists are re-emerging, but our armed forces and the people of Pakistan together have achieved what even NATO could not,” he said.

Bilawal recalled that consensus-building was essential for constitutional reforms. “We tried to bring changes through agreement. When the constitutional bench was formed, both Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PTI were part of the process. Together, we established constitutional benches,” he stated.

Highlighting historical context, Bilawal said, “After defeating India, the then Prime Minister had decided to elevate the Army Chief to Field Marshal. Consensus is vital for legislation — during Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s era, all political parties united to approve one constitution. Every dictator who tried to break that consensus failed.”

He added, “Through the Charter of Democracy, the 18th Amendment gave rights to the provinces. Let me make it clear — **no one’s father has the courage to abolish the 18th Amendment**. It was passed with consensus by the PPP, PML-N, and all major parties.”

Bilawal further mentioned that the PPP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) held two days of deliberations before deciding to support the government on constitutional matters. “Our armed forces defeated Modi’s India, and our Field Marshal is being praised globally. From today, the constitutional amendment will stand as Pakistan’s true constitution,” he concluded.
