MQM-P Lawmaker Demands Karachi Be Placed Under Federal Administration

ISLAMABAD: **MQM-Pakistan** Member of National Assembly **Arshad Vahra** has called for **Karachi to be placed under federal control** to address the city’s persistent problems.
Speaking during a National Assembly session, Vahra criticized the slow pace of development in Karachi, saying, *“In Islamabad, an underpass can be constructed in three months, whereas in Karachi, it takes several years. People are suffering from diseases, and the city’s issues remain unresolved. Karachi should come under federal administration so its problems can be effectively addressed.”*
Vahra also criticized recent Supreme Court decisions, stating that the **name of Pakistan has been removed** in certain contexts, and questioned the exception granted to the President, which **Mufti Taqi Usmani declared contrary to Islamic principles**.
Another MQM-P lawmaker, **Farooq Sattar**, added, *“The main aim of major political parties has always been the acquisition of power. Our legislation has never truly focused on the welfare of the people. This summarizes the past shortcomings.”*
The MQM-P lawmakers emphasized that federal intervention in Karachi’s administration is necessary to resolve the city’s long-standing infrastructure, health, and governance challenges.
