Major Security Lapse Uncovered in Islamabad Police During High-Profile Duties

ISLAMABAD: A significant security lapse has been uncovered within the Islamabad Police, as multiple officers from the Operations Division were found absent from their assigned security duties during the visits of foreign VVIP delegations and an international cricket team.
According to official reports, a total of **76 police personnel** were absent from their duty points without prior permission or notification — a situation that could have posed a serious threat to the overall security environment of the federal capital.
The revelation came when **SSP Security Division Islamabad, Captain (R) Zeeshan Haider**, conducted surprise inspections of security deployments for the **International Speakers Conference (ISC)** and the **foreign cricket team**. During the checks, he found several officers missing from their posts.
In his official communication to the **DIG Islamabad** and other senior officials, SSP Haider stated that on **November 10**, during the inspection of ISC VVIP security arrangements, **67 officers** from the Operations Wing were found absent without permission. Additionally, between **November 7 and 9**, **9 officers**, including an ASI, were missing from their designated security points during duties for the foreign cricket team and delegations.
The report described the officers’ negligence as “alarming,” especially during the presence of high-profile international guests, warning that such behavior could have resulted in a serious security incident.
The SSP has recommended **strict departmental action** against the absent officers and clerical staff, including **dismissal from service**, citing gross negligence and violation of duty protocols.
Officials say an internal inquiry has been initiated to determine responsibility and ensure that similar lapses do not recur during future high-security assignments.
