FBR Makes Online Filing of Income Tax Returns and Withholding Statements Mandatory for Individual Taxpayers

Islamabad: The **Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)** has made it compulsory for individual taxpayers to submit **income tax returns and withholding statements online**, following amendments to the **Income Tax Rules, 2002**.

A notification issued by the FBR stated that **sub-rule 2DD of Rule 73** has been revised, introducing a new provision that mandates **electronic filing** of tax returns and withholding statements for individual taxpayers.

According to the FBR, the amendment aims to **promote the use of modern technology in the tax system**, simplify the return submission process, and **effectively manage taxpayer data**.

The notification marks a significant step toward **digitalization of Pakistan’s tax administration** and improving transparency in tax compliance.
