Inhumane Treatment of Afghan Refugees Intolerable; UN and Global Bodies Must Take Immediate Notice — Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party

*Quetta (Daily Qudrat)* — The **Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party (PNAP)** has strongly condemned what it called the *inhumane and brutal treatment* of Afghan refugee communities in Quetta and other parts of southern Pashtunkhwa, terming the actions a blatant violation of international human rights principles.
In a statement issued by the party’s provincial secretariat, PNAP said that the **encirclement of Afghan refugee settlements** and the **forcible detention of women, children, and the elderly** represent a dark stain on humanity. Such behavior, the statement added, is unacceptable in any civilized society.
The party urged the **United Nations, UNHCR, Amnesty International**, and other international human rights organizations to **take immediate notice** of these violations and to pressure the **Government of Pakistan and local authorities** to halt such illegal and cruel measures.
PNAP further alleged that police, levies, and administrative officials have been involved in **illegal evictions, property seizures, and extortion** from detained Afghan refugees — actions the party described as “deeply shameful and intolerable,” violating both **human dignity** and **national and international laws**.
Highlighting the economic and social contributions of Afghan refugees, the statement noted that for over **five decades**, Afghan residents have played a **vital role in the development, trade, and economy** of Balochistan and Pakistan. Thousands of Afghan traders, laborers, artisans, and investors contribute millions of rupees daily to the national economy, the party said.
PNAP called on the government to **fully implement the tripartite agreement** between Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the UNHCR, ensuring respect for the **human and legal rights** of Afghan refugees. Referring to the **1951 Citizenship Act**, the party emphasized that children born in Pakistan have the **fundamental right to citizenship**.
In conclusion, PNAP appealed to **democratic political parties, human rights activists, lawyers, civil society organizations, and the public** to unite against these injustices, reject anti-human policies, and intensify the struggle for the protection of **human rights and dignity**.
