Balochistan Awami Party Demands Increase in Assembly Seats Under 27th Constitutional Amendment

Quetta: The Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) has urged the federal government and its coalition partners to increase the number of National and Provincial Assembly seats for Balochistan in the upcoming 27th Constitutional Amendment.

A BAP spokesperson said that the issue had also been raised during the 26th Amendment discussions, when coalition partners assured the party that it would be addressed in the next amendment.

“Balochistan is the largest province in Pakistan by area, yet its representation remains limited,” the spokesperson said, adding that currently, each constituency in Balochistan represents a population of around 350,000 to 400,000 people—significantly higher than in other provinces.

The spokesperson emphasized that increasing representation would help reduce the sense of deprivation among the people of Balochistan and ensure fair political participation in line with the province’s size and population.
