Tensions Erupt in Karachi After Dumper Truck Kills Citizen; Association Chief Announces Highway Protest

Karachi:Tension gripped the city after a **citizen was killed by a speeding dumper truck** on Nishtar Road. Enraged residents set the vehicle on fire, prompting **Dumper Association President Liaquat Mehsud** to arrive at the scene with an armed guard.
According to eyewitnesses, the crowd became **furious upon seeing Mehsud**, chanting slogans and staging a protest in front of his vehicle. As Mehsud was leaving, his guard **opened fire into the air**, though fortunately, **no casualties were reported**.
Locals accused Liaquat Mehsud of prioritizing his vehicles over human lives, alleging that he appears at every accident site to protect truck owners’ interests rather than express concern for victims.
In response, Mehsud announced plans to **block the National Highway in protest**, claiming that his vehicle was burned despite informing police officials. He stated that when he arrived with 15–20 people, a large mob attacked him.
Earlier, a **citizen named Shahzaib** was killed and his wife injured after being hit by the dumper truck. The **driver, identified as Niaz Hussain**, attempted to flee but was later **arrested and shifted to Garden Police Station**.
Police said investigations are underway, while security has been increased in the area to prevent further unrest.
