Inquiry Uncovers Bogus Allotment of Over 200 Railway Quarters Worth Rs100 Million; Report Sent to Ministry of Railways

Lahore: A major housing scam has been uncovered in Pakistan Railways involving the **bogus allotment of more than 200 residential quarters** in **Lahore and Mughalpura**, allegedly made in exchange for **bribes amounting to Rs100 million**. The **Director General Vigilance** has completed the inquiry and submitted a detailed report to the **Ministry of Railways**, while cases have been registered against the officials involved.

According to railway sources, **DG Vigilance DIG North Abdul Rab Chaudhry** initiated the inquiry after receiving multiple complaints of illegal allotments within the Lahore and Mughalpura divisions. The investigation revealed solid evidence implicating **current and former state inspectors, AIO/W officers, and other staff members** from the Railways Headquarters in the scam.

The report found that the officials had engaged in widespread **forgery and corruption**, issuing fake allotment letters for railway quarters using **scanned signatures of authorized officers**. These letters were kept “off the record,” allowing the group to illegally allot government housing in exchange for hefty bribes.

A key suspect, **Adil Shehzad**, a **UDC in the Workshops Division**, has been booked for **fraud and forgery** after allegedly allotting a railway bungalow (No. 260-B, Signal Shop Colony) to himself using a **fake letter purportedly signed by the XEN Headquarters**. He also illegally rented out servant quarters of the property to private individuals. Adil Shehzad is currently **absconding**.

The **DG Vigilance** has recommended departmental and legal action against all officers and staff involved, while the **Chairman Railways** has ordered the formation of a **joint investigation team** comprising officials from **Vigilance, Special Branch, and the SP offices of Lahore and Mughalpura Workshops**.

Preliminary findings suggest that a **coordinated network of inspectors and clerical staff** systematically carried out the fraudulent scheme, depriving honest and deserving employees of their legitimate housing rights.

The inquiry team will now proceed with a comprehensive investigation to finalize the report and expose all individuals involved in this large-scale corruption scandal.
