Women Members Announced for District-Level Women Protection Committees in KP

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced the women members for district-level Women Protection Committees across the province. The provincial assembly has nominated women MPAs to serve on the committees in their respective districts.
According to the official notification, Sitara Afrin has been nominated for D.I. Khan, Aman Jaleel for Mohmand, and Madina Gul Afridi for Khyber district. Similarly, Rabia Shaheen will represent Kurram, Nilofer Begum for Bannu, Naheeda Noor for Bajaur, and Arifa Bibi for Lower Chitral. Amina Sardar has been nominated for Upper and Lower Kohistan as well as Pallas, while Faiza Malik will serve for Battagram and Torghar.
Afshan Hussain will represent Swat and Shangla, Shazia Jadoon for Haripur, Jamila Pracha for Kohat, Farah Khan for Lakki Marwat and Orakzai, Sonia Hussain for Mansehra, and Shazia Tahmas for Mardan. For Karak and Hangu, Mehr Sultana has been appointed; Ashbar Jadoon for Charsadda; Farzana Shaheen for South Waziristan; Nadia Sher for Buner; Khadija Bibi for Upper Dir; Shahida Waheed for Malakand; and Sobia Shahid for North Waziristan.
The Women Protection Act was passed in 2021 to curb violence against women. Pakistan People’s Party MPA Nighat Orakzai had proposed an amendment to the law, ensuring that women MPAs chair the protection committees in districts where they are present.
