Balochistan Public Service Commission Without Chairman for Three Months; Over 4,000 Appointments Delayed

Quetta: The **Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC)** — one of the province’s most crucial constitutional institutions — has been functioning **without a chairman for the past three months**, resulting in the **complete suspension of more than 4,000 government appointments** from **Grade 16 to higher ranks**. The delay has left nearly **100,000 job applicants** in a state of uncertainty about their future.

According to official sources, former BPSC Chairman **Saalik Khan** retired in **August 2025**, but the provincial government has **yet to appoint his successor**, despite repeated calls for immediate action. The absence of a chairman has stalled recruitment for thousands of key posts, including **600 IT teachers (Grade 17)**, **tehsildars**, **naib tehsildars**, and positions in the **C&W, P&D**, and **Local Government Departments**.

Public frustration is growing as **government tenders and administrative processes continue on schedule**, while **merit-based recruitments remain frozen**. Citizens have questioned the government’s priorities, calling the delay a reflection of **poor governance and administrative inefficiency**.

Officials warn that the **continued vacancy** at BPSC is undermining not only **merit-based hiring** but also **governance, service delivery**, and **developmental progress** across the province. In a region already struggling with high unemployment, filling these **4,000 vacant posts** could provide **economic relief to around 40,000 families**.

The issue also impacts the **integration of the Levies Force into the provincial police**, as new police recruitments require an active and functional BPSC to ensure transparency and meritocracy.

Earlier in **February 2025**, the then Chief Minister had expressed displeasure over recruitment delays in the Commission. Observers now stress that the **responsibility lies with the current provincial government and its coalition partners** to **immediately appoint a qualified chairman** so that the long-pending recruitment process can resume and restore public confidence in the province’s administrative machinery.
