FBR Establishes Directorate General of Communication and Public Relations in Pakistan Customs

ISLAMABAD: The **Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)** has established the **Directorate General of Communication and Public Relations** within **Pakistan Customs**, aimed at modernizing the department’s **media, public awareness, and promotional strategies** across the country.
According to **SRO No. 1954**, officially issued by the FBR, the **Director General’s (DG) office** will be based in **Islamabad** and will report directly to the **Member Customs Operations** at FBR Headquarters. The DG office will coordinate with **all regional customs offices** across Pakistan.
The new directorate will be led by a **Director General**, who will oversee **strategic communication policies**, **media management**, **public awareness campaigns**, and **digital outreach** for Pakistan Customs. It will be responsible for promoting the department’s **positive image**, providing **timely responses to negative or misleading reports**, and enhancing **public engagement**.
The directorate’s functions include:
Developing and implementing **communication and PR strategies** related to reforms, legal amendments, and policy changes.
Engaging **media and PR experts** or private firms for specialized communication efforts.
Conducting **nationwide awareness campaigns**, **workshops**, and **conferences** to project Pakistan Customs’ initiatives.
Acting as the **official spokesperson** for Pakistan Customs and ensuring **accurate information flow** during crises.
Monitoring the **official website and social media platforms**, publishing educational and informational materials, and countering **fake or misleading news**.
Establishing a **Customs Help Desk** and an **integrated grievance redressal system** under **Section 7 of the FBR Act, 2007**, to handle public complaints effectively.
Using **modern digital tools** to assess campaign performance and monitor **cybercrime or defamation cases** related to Customs.
To ensure smooth implementation, an **“Anomaly Committee”** has been formed, comprising the **Director General (Chairperson)**, **Director Headquarters (Member)**, and **Secretary Law and Procedure (Committee Secretary)**. The committee has been directed to submit a report to the FBR within **30 days** to make the new directorate **fully operational and effective**.
