Karachi: Senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and former **Speaker of the Sindh Assembly, Agha Siraj Durrani**, passed away on Wednesday at the age of **72** after a prolonged illness. He was under treatment at a private hospital in Karachi, where doctors confirmed his death earlier today.
According to reports, Durrani had suffered a **brain hemorrhage** about a month ago and had been hospitalized since then. His condition worsened in recent days before his passing.
Born on **October 5, 1953**, in **Shikarpur**, Agha Siraj Durrani received his early education from **St. Patrick’s High School, Karachi**, and earned an **LLB degree** from **Sindh Muslim Government Law College**.
He was a **two-time Speaker** of the Sindh Assembly, serving from **May 31, 2013, to May 25, 2024**, and also held the position of **acting Governor of Sindh** between **March and October 2022**. Over a political career spanning more than **four decades**, he was elected multiple times as a **Member of the Provincial Assembly**, served as a **provincial minister three times**, and remained among the **most trusted associates of Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari**.

### National Leadership Pays Tribute
President **Asif Ali Zardari**, Prime Minister **Shehbaz Sharif**, and Chief Minister **Murad Ali Shah** expressed deep sorrow over his passing, praising his lifelong commitment to democracy and public service.
In his condolence message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Durrani rendered valuable services as Speaker of the Sindh Assembly and his contributions to politics and welfare would be long remembered.
PPP Chairman **Bilawal Bhutto Zardari** described Durrani as “a symbol of patience and integrity,” saying his passing marks the end of an era. “His struggle for democracy will always be remembered,” Bilawal said.
Sindh Chief Minister **Murad Ali Shah** visited **Ziauddin Hospital** to offer condolences to the bereaved family, calling Durrani a “principled, loyal, and sincere leader of the PPP who strengthened democratic institutions in Sindh.”
