No Provincial Government Opposed to Anti-Terror Operations Will Be Accepted, Says DG ISPR

Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif urges provincial leaders to protect their people rather than seek security guarantees from Afghanistan

PESHAWAR: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry delivered a blunt warning that the state will not tolerate any provincial government that opposes operations against terrorism.

Speaking at a press briefing in Peshawar, he said political ambitions cannot be placed above the state or the safety of citizens. “No individual — regardless of position — has the right to trade the lives and property of the people for personal gain,” he said, adding that those who do so will be squeezed out.

The DG ISPR also criticised calls for seeking security guarantees from Afghanistan, urging provincial authorities to take responsibility for protecting their own populations instead of “begging” for security from across the border. He warned political parties against dragging the military into partisan narratives and said the army’s spokesman cannot respond daily to every political claim.

Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif reiterated the army’s stance that political rhetoric must not undermine unified efforts to counter terrorism and stressed that the state’s sovereignty and public safety are non-negotiable.
