Acting President Yousuf Raza Gillani Clarifies: No Decision Made on Israel Policy

Peshawar: Acting President of Pakistan, Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, has clarified that no decision has been made regarding Israel, nor is the government planning to take any such step. He stated that the formulation of foreign policy lies with the federal government, and the Foreign Minister will take Parliament into confidence on the matter.

Addressing a press conference at the Governor House Peshawar alongside Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, Gillani said that Pakistan had earlier signed a peace agreement with U.S. President Donald Trump, which also involved allies including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Indonesia, Turkey, and Jordan.

He stressed that any future decision regarding Israel will be made in line with parliamentary consensus. “The Deputy Prime Minister and the Finance Minister have already issued clarifications. Once Parliament convenes, the Foreign Minister will brief the House,” he added.

The Acting President emphasized adherence to the Constitution, stating that issues such as provincial rights, the creation of new provinces, and the NFC Award are clearly defined in the Constitution. “We are democrats, and in democracy, differences of opinion always exist,” he remarked.

Gillani further highlighted past constitutional reforms, noting that the condition barring a person from becoming Prime Minister more than twice was abolished, and Article 58(2)(b), which allowed the President to dissolve Parliament, was also removed.
