Balochistan Assembly Approves Key Resolutions on Road and Water Projects, Rejects Land Revenue Reform

Quetta:The Balochistan Assembly has approved resolutions calling for the early completion of the **Nokundi–Mashkhel Road** and ensuring **water supply to Gwadar from the Mirani Dam**, while a proposal to review the **Balochistan Land Revenue Act of 1967** and establish a Land Record and Management Authority was rejected due to lack of majority support.
During Friday’s session, lawmakers expressed concern over the slow progress on the **102-kilometer Nokundi–Mashkhel Road**, initiated in 2020 but still incomplete. The Assembly urged the provincial government to take up the matter with the federal authorities to expedite construction.
Another resolution was passed demanding a sustainable solution to Gwadar’s water crisis, with members noting that billions of rupees had been spent over the past decade but residents still lacked clean water. The Assembly recommended connecting Gwadar to the Mirani Dam to address the issue.
However, a resolution proposing reforms in the outdated **1967 Land Revenue Act** and the creation of a new **Land Record and Management Authority** failed to secure enough votes. Lawmakers supporting the motion argued that digitization of land records was necessary to curb corruption and resolve disputes, but the treasury benches maintained that work on record digitization was already underway in several districts.
